The Beginning

The Beginning, originally uploaded by lostaussie.

I was playing with my new rubber stamp designs and liked the way this saying worked. It was one that a friend of mine, Janice passed along. Good thought huh?

There's not much left growing in the garden after the hot hot days we have had of late. A couple of Black Eyed Suzie type daisies have managed to survive both the bugs and the heat.

Promises that dont fade

My son is doing a poetry project at school and I was asked by his teacher to help with it, but unfortunately I was not able to at the time. However, in the spirit of things, I share a poem that I wrote for my two sons a few years ago..

A Mother's Promise
I feel your small hand
clasped in mine
tight and trusting
that I will lead you
upon life's path
sure and true
but I cannot promise
where it will take you
only that..
for as long as I am able
I will watch over you
and love you
keeping your travels
along life's unpredictable road
as smooth and calm as I can
shield you from pain and
sorrow along your way
share your moments of joy
and laughter
and show you how to love...
so that the light that shines
in your eyes
and glows in your heart
will never be dimmed by
the tribulations of your journey
but keep you strong and
nurture you as you grow

this I promise....

Feeling Groovy

Groovy Pic, originally uploaded by lostaussie.

I've recently become enthralled with Illustrator, as much as Photoshop and as I am also thoroughly "into" the retro look, playing with the Groovy flower thing seemed like a natural place to go.

I should be busy designing stamps, but there is something to be said for Flower Power and the enjoyment of being back in front of my own computer again.

London Walk

London Walk, originally uploaded by lostaussie.

Well I am back safe and sound in the Northern Hemisphere. Travelling is not much fun these days...

Anyway, despite all the recent dramas and some trepidation at visiting, I had a good time in London.
This is a composite of a few of the pics I took while I was there.

The photo's of a tree snapped in the middle of Perth city a couple of days ago. I've Photoshopped it to change the colours and contrasts just for fun, but the orginal was taken on a clear blue sky day in the middle of winter. I've no idea why it has no leaves, as it seems to have the skin of a gum tree - strange but true.

The Pink Postcard Series

The Pink Postcard Series, originally uploaded by lostaussie.

I finally got around to scanning these. I made them when I was messing around the other night - hiding from seven noisy boys having a sleepover. I took refuge in the dining room and made a few postcards with whatever I could put my hands on without venturing into their space. I am not sure that my little 20year old sewing machine was that thrilled about chewing through paper, but it did it anyway!

Facing Eve

Facing Eve
Originally uploaded by lostaussie.

Rainy day digital art play using some bits taken off a stock photo site. Not very thrilling, but it will do for now.

I had high hopes of doing something creative and mindboggling today, but that did not happen. I am not sure where the day went, but somehow inbetween breakfast and dinner it disappeared.

and...the ''eternal muse" seems to be taking her time to wake up. I have a lot of ideas in my head, but none that really want to some out on paper.

I think I am still going through personal PC withdrawl.

Well I have not disappeared off the planet, merely changed perspectives and am now writing from my cozy work room all the way 'downunder'.

Since I dont have all my software or regular PC, this is a bit of an experiment in getting artwork posted to my Blog. Flikr seems to do the trick and I dont have to install more software on my dear son's new 'puter which is a good thing.

It was lovely and sunny today. The first break from rainy wet stuff more or less since I got here. The change was nice and so was not having to wash or dry the complete school outfits of two small men overnight.

I dont think we will be quite so lucky with the sunshine tomorrow. Well off to bed said "Zeberdee" (for those of you who ever watched the Magic Roundabout)!

Playing with some of my old vintage photos the other night and instead of my usual pixels and paper, decided to push the sewing maching into action and popped this fella onto some canvas. He is now nicely framed in a 14"x11" and hanging on my wall.

Clearing up the Scraps

One of the last things I usually do each night is tear up a piece of watercolour paper and make a collage of whatever seems readily available. There is not much thought or planning involved with these pieces, they are just serendipitous.... and no, I am not aware of any particular deep, subliminal or otherwise motivation behind the pages..they are just night night journal and close my day.

Art For The Day

Some days it works and all hail to the muse when it does!

I finished a bunch of trading cards for a Grunge theme today. I also got around to taking a picture of the latest piece of assemblage that I finished a few days ago. It looks a whole lot better in the shadow box that it lives in, but you get the idea.

I also fiddled a bit with new pics for the website. I have only loaded a new face page, the rest will come in time.

...stay tuned!

Fruit or frustration

I worked for ages tonight on a new vintage grunge piece. Turned around to play with a new something and hit the wrong save-as button and lost it all!! Grrr! Not often that I do that, but it really bites when it happens! I should have just gone back and re-done it while it was fresh in my mind, instead I went and fiddled with other stuff, created three more collages and ended up not being satisfied with anything much.

Time for bed!

I guess this rather sums it all up!

Impulse V Compulsion

There's a list of "things to do" on my desk some of which I am fairly well compelled to do. Then there is the mountain of ideas which spark the impuslive moments of creativity.

Without too much aforethought I concocted a digital label for a collaborative CD music project that I am working on (nope you cant see that! :-) ). I finished yet another 3D assemblage piece which I will take pictures of when it's dry and standable uppable! And lastly, but not least, finished #2 in my series of Vintage Grunge.

Although I was compelled to do some laundry, I think the impulsive side won out yet again.
Who is surprised? Not me.

Vintage Grunge Part I
I'm working on a series of Vingtage "grunge" style pieces. I've hundreds of these gorgeous old cabinet photos and they rather beg to have something funky and not quite so "expected" done with them.
Stay tuned..

Focus!! What focus?

Seems that each day (or night) dawns with a wealth of ideas buzzing around in my head. Each and every one vying for first place on the "to do" list. Having played around with assemblage, fabric and digital art pieces already this week, the new compulsion has been to create a couple of large pieces. To that end I have spent the last two days working on canvases that are 24x36" and 24x48" respectively.
The first one is pretty well finished. The second one is well on the way and is at present drying outside in the Carolina sunshine.
I wonder what particular fascination tomorrow will bring?

Digital Therapy

Time for bed. Nothing like a bit of digital therapy to soothe the soul before you go to sleep. I love the challenge of mixing and matching images. It's almost the reverse of doing a jigsaw puzzle as you create the work out of pieces, but it is you who has to find the base images to work with and you have no idea what the picture will turn out like until it's finished (for me anyway). Very soothing as I really think of nothing else until the last pixel is pushed into place.

Ciao for today.

I am attempting to do the 'assemblage" thing. You can probably find ten good friends who will say that I dont "do" this...but perhaps I do now.
This was the first in a number of three that I did over the weekend. Perhaps my new passion will be sourcing wellpriced junk to add to my already burgeoning collection of doodads!
